Product oriented questions

1.    Do you have any products that would help improve my child’s writing/handwriting?

The first item we would suggest is a pencil grip.  It is molded in a shape that helps children learn to hold a pencil correctly.  The second item we would recommend is one of our handwriting books.  ELP's Handwriting Skills Simplified is a very popular series for us.  Carson-Dellosa  and Rainbow Bridge also have good inexpensive skill-building books that cover this topic.  In addition, we sell lined grade specific journal books for as little as 99c if you just want your child to practice.  We also carry various stencils in manuscript as well as cursive including School Rite Stencils for $10.99.

2.    Do you have any suggestions on improving my child’s reading?

One of our best products is Learning Resources’ Phonics Activity Sets.  For $29.95, they include 20 activity cards, approximately 100 Reading Rods a dry erase board and marker, an eraser and a handy carrying case.  There are 4 levels in the series:  Letters and Sounds, Word Building, Spelling and Sentence building.

Two of our favorite reading products are Dr. Maggie’s Books & Bob Books. These two book series start at a low level and then gradually get harder as the series continues. Dr. Maggie’s books are sold separate and average $ 3 each. The Bob books are sold in a 4 box set and each box has 15 books, and average $15 a box.

3.     I’m a grandmother of 3 children ages 6-12 and I  am looking for educational material for them when they come to visit?

Learning how has a variety of fun educational toys. The Ant Farm from Insect Lore (ILP 05510) is $14.99 (a great value.) We also have a variety of Microscope sets including the Micropro Elite from Educational Insights (EI 5302) for  $69.99.  Recommended for grades 3-12, this item comes ready for use, all you need is fun things to examine.  Also ask us about Jazwares and Smart Labs science kits.

4.      I’m a Spanish teacher for grades K-5 can you help me find some fun products for my classroom?

We carry a large variety of real life Spanish flash cards from Trend.  Alphabet, Time, Math, Picture words and Colors and Shapes to name just a few.  We also have a music CD called “Learn Spanish through music”, the CD comes with a helpful book and is recommended for ages K-7 and is $13.99. Lastly we recommend Spanish Bingo.  It’s fun for all ages and plays 3-36 players, and the price starts at $10.99.  Other Spanish products include Bilingual Labels, Spanish Alphabet cubes and Spanish Puzzle Cards.  Visit your local Learning How to see all this and more.

5.    My fifth grade son is reading below grade level. I would like to help him at home. Can you give me some suggestions?

We carry a wonderful series of reading comprehension books from Remedia Publications. Although the reading level is lower, the stories are written to interest an older student. With the lower reading level, your son will be successful practicing his reading skills. This same company also publishes workbooks that cover specific comprehension skills that he may be struggling to master.  Ask a Learning How sales associate to help you find the appropriate books from this publisher.

6.    My child is three years old and is showing a lot of interest in the alphabet. I would like to encourage this with some fun activities to do at home. Can you help me?

We have many products to get your child excited about the alphabet. One great way to start is with a book from The Mailbox Company Literacy for Little Learners – Letters and Sounds. This book is full of great activities to present the letters and sounds to your child.  We also have games that develop many pre-reading skills.  Ask for these by name:  Learning the Alphabet: Ladybug Letters (CD14001), I Spy A Mouse in the House: Picture Rhymes (CD3111), Picture Sequencing (CD3115), ABC Mix and Match (SMP8015), Alphabet – Fun to Know Puzzles (TRE36002), Opposites (TRE36004)

7.    My child hates flash cards and we are struggling to learn the addition and subtraction facts. What can we use besides the hated flash cards?
